We all know that lowering a handicap is no small feat. Recently, Cheeky Golf Club embarked on an ambitious challenge to hit 10,000 golf balls in just 30 days to improve a handicap from 25.6. Here’s a recap of the journey, the hurdles faced, and the progress made.
The Challenge Begins
Starting this challenge was no walk in the park. The physical toll was immediate: shanking shots, finger pain, and a nagging backache quickly became his reality. He started to putt after his back hurt to preserve the olde body.
Golf Lesson and Setback
After four years without formal instruction, Cheeky Golf finally took a lesson. The coach emphasized closing the clubface and maintaining shaft lean. Despite the lesson, the practice session that day was brutal. It is a stark reminder that improvement is not always linear.
Persistence and Adaptation
Cheeky Golf’s quest continued by watching YouTube tutorials and tweaking the swing. The priority shifted to putting to avoid aggravating the back, while the aim was to keep the swing consistent for the final rounds.
Final Rounds and Results
The ultimate test came with three rounds on different courses. Each round was a mix of highs and lows, with excellent and poor shots. Ultimately, the results were clear: the handicap dropped by 4.4 strokes, from 25.6 to 21.2.
Conclusion
Reflecting on this 30-day challenge, the effort and dedication required were immense, but the significant reduction in the handicap made it worthwhile. Watch his video below!
